WBCOOP: PokerStars states in detail why Paul Jones is best blogger

Moin tosamm,

On PokerStars.com, you are able to find the results
of PokerStars WBCOOP 2012.

a short time ago the PokerStars Blogger World Championship was my topic. In fact not the WBCOOP itself but the winner who had been awarded the title "best blogger". In my opinion this choice was the worst PS might have made. It seemed as if Paul Jones was affiliated with PokerStars.

As announced, I sent a press request to PokerStars including the following: Why was Paul Jones able to win this award although the WBCOOP PokerStars terms say: "Employees and relatives of employees of PokerStars and any entities affiliated or related to PokerStars are not permitted to participate in the Promotion. For these purposes, the term "relative" shall mean spouse, partner, parent, child or sibling"?

A personal and detailed answer

On April 3rd, PokerStars sent me a mail in which they describe in detail why the choice of Paul Jones didn't violate the terms and conditions of WBCOOP. Here you go:

"Thank you for getting in touch regarding the decision about the WBCOOP Best Blogger. We appreciate your comments, and hopefully the below will help you to understand why Paul Jones won the award.

Firstly, please note that the judges for this promotion have absolutely no connection or involvement with anyone from the Poker School Online team. When we set-up WBCOOP, we wanted maximum involvement for anyone who considers themselves a poker blogger. If we were to take out those bloggers who came from Poker School Online or another PokerStars affiliated site, we would have been going against the core principles of blogging & what we wanted to achieve.

PokerStars: "Fully eligible to participate": RoyalRaiser
What's important to know, is that in the terms & conditions it states (as you've already mentioned): Employees and relatives of employees of PokerStars and any entities affiliated or related to PokerStars are not permitted to participate in the Promotion. For these purposes, the term "relative" shall mean spouse, partner, parent, child or sibling.

It's really important to understand that none of the Poker School Online moderators are employees of PokerStars or any entities affiliates with PokerStars. The moderators have no contracts in place, and are free to use the software in the same way as anyone else, which means they are eligible to take part in any of our real money promotions. PokerStars employees are not permitted to take part in promotions. This should hopefully demonstrate that the moderators were fully eligible to participate in the promotion.
"The fact he moderates in the Poker School Online forum does not rule him out of winning the prize."
With regards to the RoyalRaiser being awarded with the Best Blogger prize, the judges looked through 12 shortlisted bloggers, with 10 having come from PokerNews, and 2 additional places having been awarded by the PokerStars Blog Team. It was agreed that the RoyalRaiser was the most vocal, authentic, engaging and showed his core blogging skills over and above any of the other 11. The decision was not made lightly, and the team sat through & talked about all of the finalists before reaching their decision. The fact he moderates in the Poker School Online forum does not rule him out of winning the prize. We had entries from lots of different countries, with some bloggers active on competitor sites to PokerStars. However as mentioned above, the promotion was one that was open to any active blogger outside of contracted PokerStars employees (or those employed by companies affiliated to PokerStars).
"The RoyalRaiser is not contracted or employed in a legal capacity"
The RoyalRaiser is not contracted or employed in a legal capacity, which means his award will not be taken away as he doesn't breach any of the terms and conditions.
Aside from the other prizes that have already been announced, there will be no further awards given out for WBCOOP 2012.

Once again, thank you for making contact about this, and I trust that the above helps to explain the decision."

Although I'm very happy to finally receive an answer to my request, my wish that WBCOOP will be focusing more on quality and clarity in the future still remains. Part of it: PokerStars should explain right away in full detail why a certain blogger has won a title like "Best Blogger". Especially if the relationship between PokerStars and blogger is not clear. The blogger himself can't be forced to explain himself why he or she won.

"Blog road show" presented by PokerStars?

Furthermore, content should become a bigger part of the WBCOOP. As I have already written, I want to discover the little blog-diamonds out there participating at the PokerStars World Blogger Championship of Poker. Which blogs have a very unique design? Which ones contain the most humorous content? Also: a blogger road show would be great. My advice: Include your local blog teams into the jury, too, PokerStars, award national titles.

In addition, never add a vote-scheme as used on the Poker News sites again to gain an overview which blogs may be the ten best to take a closer look. It was possible to give votes on a daily basis. This way doesn't really show quality, it only reflects which bloggers have the biggest audience.

The PokerStars Sunday Million - it would be nice to see the next
WBCOOP main event start at a similar prime time.
Main event - prime time starting time

Also, flatten the price structure. If players spend five hours of their life on a tourney and are only able to win a 11 dollar ticket, that might result in more frustration than fun. Finally, a WBCOOP main event deserves a main event starting time. As the PokerStars Sunday Million and Warm Up start later in the evening, WBCOOP has the same justification to do so.

Beste Gröten, Nico

P.S. Thanks to all players, bloggers and readers following my WBCOOP blog posts. Although the main core of the "Best blogger" post series was not a positive one, it was fun to see you comment, like, link - and spreading my word. Also, thanks to Markus Mahns for taking a look on my English blog posts. It means much to me.

P.S. You like my blog post? You like Amazon, too? I'd be happy if you start your next shopping tour with the following banner. I take part at the Amazon affiliate program. So, with using this banner some dollars reach my low roller poker bankroll, too. Thanks a lot!
